Evolving models of digital distribution for performance
Distributing work online – what works?

With venues closed we’ve seen a migration of cultural content onto digital platforms: how arts and culture organisations have adapted to reach existing and new audiences online is testament to their creativity and resilience.

The Space team invite you to join other practitioners to reveal how they’ve found new models for sharing their work with audiences, and discuss some of the questions which are core to the sustainability of the sector.

With a mix of discussion and case studies we’ll consider:

With digital as an established home for arts and culture, what opportunities are emerging?
What are the challenges in distributing performance digitally, and how might we meet those?
How can we create and position work in a way that cuts through to audiences?
Sarah Fortescue, Head of Distribution for The Space will be joined by:

Jack Fayter, Campaigns Manager, Bristol Old Vic
Jack oversaw the creation of Bristol Old Vic At Home, a digital service offering special events, shows on demand and cutting edge experimental theatre. He’ll tell us the thinking behind the project, consider what works for the audience and how the project has added a welcome new source of income.

Jess Brough, Founder, Fringe of Colour
Fringe of Colour is the promotional platform, event producer and support network for people of colour at the Edinburgh Festival. Jess will talk about Fringe of Colour Films, the online arts festival launched last year, how it supports the creative community and the audience, what they learned from the first festival, and what 2021 holds.

Nick Sweeting, Executive Producer, Javaad Alipoor Company
When last year’s tour of Javaad Alipoor’s play Rich Kids was cancelled, the company reimagined it for digital performance. Nick will discuss how they’re establishing international audiences for the work at film festivals and by forming partnerships with universities.
